Maintaining a Healthy Body Image

We live in a body obsessed world. This might not seem like an inherently bad thing, and it isn't. However, when the media becomes obsessed with the "perfect" body in celebrities and fashion models, it trickles down to the everyday woman who does not have the time in her busy schedule to sit at home and sculpt the "perfect" body.


However, try convincing the everyday woman that her body is great, especially when it does not fit into the 36 24 36 measurements of a living Barbie. Having a bad body image does not only affect how a body treats her, but how she treats her family, her children, and her life. Depression is a common side effect of having a bad body image, which can lead to unhealthy eating habits.

Unhealthy eating habits like eating too little to lose weight, or eating too much out of depression can result from a bad body image, and become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

It is easy trying to tell people to have a good body image, but what is a healthy body image? This first thing to start when designing your own healthy body image is to remember that you and your body on the same side. Women often characterize their weight problems as a "battle," but in reality you need to feel that you are on the same side with your body so you can work together and support your "journey" to the body you want.

Because we can all have good and bad days, it is important to write down all your motivations for having a healthy body for those bad and rainy days where you are apt to become more depressed, down, and turn to food as a comfort.

Unfortunately, our country is also obsessed with the quick fix. This is causing cosmetic and plastic surgery to become much more popular, especially woman, who feel that they cannot or will not take the time to fix the psyche and continue onto the body, they simple go under the knife, find themselves with a new body, but stuck with the same body image problems. One surgery is just never enough.

Save yourself from a bad body image and start living a happier life today by supporting yourself in your quest.
